A still from a video, which has been widely shared on social media, of the garda operation
GARDAI in Limerick have seized a quantity of crack cocaine after arresting a man in the city centre.
Up to 10 uniformed and plainclothes gardai were involved in the major operation which targeted antisocial behaviour and the sale and supply of drugs in the Lower Cecil Street area of Limerick city.
The dramatic scenes were captured on a mobile phone by a person(s) in a nearby property which overlooks the street.
Videos of the incident, which took place on Tuesday, have been widely shared on social media. The clips show two males, who have been handcuffed, lying face down on the ground with a garda ensuring they can’t get up and flee.
There are up to ten gardai in the vicinity and a number of patrol cars.
Following a media query from Limerick Live, a garda spokesperson said gardai searched a man at Post Office Lane, Limerick city, on August 5, 2026.
“Gardai seized a quantity of suspected crack cocaine. The man, aged in his 20s, was arrested and subsequently released without charge pending the preparation of a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
“The drugs will be forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis. Investigations are ongoing,” said the garda spokesperson.
