Tragic Jamey ‘bludgeoned to death with cistern’ in Kerry home after deciding to end relationship with ‘needy’ Al-Saqar

US mum Jamey Carney was bludgeoned to death with a toilet cistern lid.

The New Yorker, 43, who moved to Ireland in 2021, was found by a family member at her rented home in Killarney, Kerry, on Tuesday.

Her partner, asylum seeker Ahmad Al-Saqar, who she met at a pro-Palestine march, is the main suspect in her murder.

He fled Ireland on an Istanbul flight within hours of the killing.

Sources claim the 28-year-old became needy and possessive and that mum-of-one Jamey had decided to end their relationship.

Gardai believe she was beaten to death in a jealous rage with the heavy lid of a toilet cistern as she lay in bed.

Her battered, bloodied body was concealed under the blankets before her killer left the house in the Homeland Estate on the Muckross Road in the early hours of last Tuesday.

Jamey’s daughter Michaela, 13, made the shocking discovery.

A source said: “She was beaten with the heavy lid of a toilet ­cistern and her body concealed under a blanket in her bedroom.

“It’s a shocking way to take anyone’s life.”

Al-Saqar, from Jordan, moved to Killarney in 2024.

Cops are describing him as a person of significant interest in their probe into Jamey’s brutal murder.

Once the body was discovered, Gardai launched a manhunt for Al-Saqar but he had a 12-hour start on them and fled Ireland.

Gardai contacted diplomatic and policing authorities in the US to track the suspect down, as well as Interpol and Europol.

Officers have been in contact with American diplomatic and policing authorities as well as with Interpol and Europol in an attempt to track down the suspect, who is originally from Jordan.

Even if he is located, the countries Gardai believe he may have fled to do not have extradition treaties with Ireland.

The issue of getting him back to Ireland to help with their investigations is further complicated by the fact that he has not been charged with a serious crime and is not known to have been involved in any criminal activities while living in Ireland for the past few years. 

The couple were together for several months and posted multiple pictures together on social media.

In a post, Jamey wrote about Al-Saqar: “He continues to show me what safe love is”. 

In the days before her murder, he commented on his “beautiful family” in a photo of the couple together with her teenage daughter. 

The day after hearing of Jamey’s murder, her mum Kathy, a psychotherapist, and her sister Devon travelled to Killarney from America.

Her sister described her as an “insanely caring human being who dedicated so much of herself, her energy and time to fighting for the rights of others”.

Jamey, a native of Westchester in New York, moved to Killarney over four years ago and worked for a healthcare consulting company.

Her grandparents were Irish. She loved all things Irish and four years ago decided to make Ireland home for herself and her daughter.

She was very active in cultural and sporting groups and believed it was a great and safe country in which to live and rear a child.

The people of Kerry are shocked and stunned that such a violent death happened in their area.

Meanwhile, gardai in Killarney continue to appeal to anyone with information regarding Jamey’s death to contact them.
