Jamey Carney murder chief suspect, 28, ARRESTED in Jordan after fleeing Ireland amid Justice Minister’s ‘pursue you’ vow

THE chief suspect in Jamey Carney’s murder has been arrested in Jordan, the Irish Sun has learned.

Ahmad Al-Saqar, 28, was at the centre of an international manhunt after fleeing Ireland before Ms Carney’s body was discovered by her daughter in Killarney, Kerry last week.

Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan earlier today said: “No matter where you are, the gardai will seek to pursue you.”

Gardai received confirmation from their counterparts abroad this afternoon that Al-Saqar had been arrested in Jordan.

Al-Saqar had taken an overnight bus to Bachelor’s Walk in Dublin city centre last Tuesday morning, from where he got a taxi to the airport and booked a flight, leaving before 11am to Istanbul in Turkey.

Jamey’s 13-year-old daughter made the gruesome discovery of her mum’s body at 1.20pm that afternoon.

It is believed that Al-Saqar travelled on his own passport but may have access to other travel documents too.

The Irish Government had made diplomatic contact with officials in Jordan.

While Interpol, the international organisation that facilitates worldwide police cooperation, were also assisting in tracking him down.

Gardai believe murder victim Jamey was killed in a jealous rage.

Jamey had been in a relationship with Al-Saqar for some time.

Al-Saqar, who disabled his own Facebook account on Friday, frequently commented under pictures Jamey posted of the pair.

In one he said: “My bride and my princess.”

In another snap alongside Al-Saqar, her daughter and dog, he wrote: “My beatiful family.”

Her funeral service will take place at noon on Wednesday in St Mary’s Cathedral, Killarney, before a private cremation.

Devon Bennett, the sister of murder victim Jamey from New York, started a GoFundMe to help with finances after arriving in Ireland in the wake of her sibling’s death.

She and their mother are liaising with gardai as well as caring for Jamey’s daughter Michaela.

In a post online, she said: “My sister, Jamey Noel Carney, was murdered in Killarney, Kerry, Ireland on Tuesday, July 7th 2026. She is survived by her brilliant 13 year old daughter Michaela.

“Jamey was an insanely caring human being, who dedicated so much of herself, her energy, and her time, to fighting for the rights of others. We grew up in New York, but she spent much of her best years with Michaela in the states in Bergen County, NJ.

“But their true home, where they both truly felt they belonged, was the beautiful town of Killarney.”

Jamey, who worked in a healthcare consulting firm, who was originally from the Westchester area of New York but moved to Killarney in 2021.

In a statement from garda headquarters last week, they confirmed a suspect had left the country.

A spokesman said: “This murder investigation is being carried out by the Serious Crime Unit, Kerry Division led by a Senior Investigating Officer based at an incident room established at Killarney Garda station.

“The investigation team is being assisted by National units including the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (GNBCI) and the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB).”

He added: “Gardai continue to appeal to any person who was in the Muckross Road area of Killarney between 11pm on the 6th of July and 5am on the 7th of July 2026 and who may have camera footage, including CCTV or dashcam, is asked to provide this footage to investigating Gardaí.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Killarney Garda Station on 064 667 1160, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station. Investigations are ongoing.

“A Garda spokesperson is not available at this time.”
