First picture of man, 40s, killed in crash between lorry and SUV near Irish town as ‘number of people’ treated at scene

A MAN, 40s, has died following a crash between a lorry an SUV type car in Co Tyrone yesterday afternoon.

The incident occurred on the Crossowen Road in Clogher at approximately 12.40pm on Friday, just 10km from the border with Co Monaghan.

Emergency services raced to the scene and medical attention was given to a “number of people”.

However, the PSNI has confirmed today that a man in his 40s died shortly after.

He has since been named as 45-year-old Damien Paul Bintley from the Holywood area of Co Down.

Following the fatal collision the police force issued an appeal for witnesses.

Inspector Stewart from the Police Service’s Collision Investigation Unit said in a statement: “We received a report at approximately 12.40pm on Friday afternoon, 31st July, of a collision involving a white MG HS car and a Volvo lorry on the Crossowen Road.

“Officers attended, alongside Northern Ireland Ambulance Service colleagues – and medical treatment was provided at the scene to a number of people.

“The driver of the MG HS car, 45-year-old Damien Paul Bintley from Holywood, sadly died from his injuries a short time later.

“We would like to hear from witnesses or anyone who may have captured dash-cam or other footage which could assist with our ongoing enquiries.”

The PSNI added: “Please call us on 101, quoting reference number 705 31/07/26, or submit information online.”

It comes after a teenager also lost his life in a road collision in Tyrone this week.

The fatal crash occurred in the Derryloughan Road area of Coalisland at around 8.15pm on Thursday between a lorry and a scrambler.

Connor Magee Campbell, 16, from the Clonoe area of the county was rushed to hospital from the scene but has since died in hospital.
