‘The country is heartbroken’ – Thousands of fans join Christy Moore in Glen Hansard dedication at All Together Now

CHRISTY Moore has said the “country is heartbroken” before dedicating a song to Glen Hansard.

The music world was plunged into mourning after the singer-songwriter sadly passed away following a motorbike crash in Dublin in the early hours of Wednesday.

One of Ireland’s biggest music festivals All Together Now then kicked off on Thursday on the grounds of Curraghmore Estate in Waterford.

Christy took to the stage at the Something Kind Of Wonderful tent this afternoon and made sure to pay tribute to Glen.

The folk singer told the huge crowd how he became friends with Glen saying: “There was a couple of songs he was interested in and he invited me to his bed set and we sang a few songs together and became good friends.

“The country is heartbroken at the loss of Glen this week and I thought I’d sing a song that Glen has been singing at all of his gigs recently and you’ll sing it with me.”

Christy then shouted out, “For Glen”, before singing a powerful rendition of the popular Irish ballad, The Auld Triangle.

Thousands of music fans joined in with Christy.

Glen’s wake will take place on Monday in the Baroque Chapel at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Royal Hospital, Kilmainham, Dublin 8.

Glen will lie in repose between 11am and 4pm for those wishing to pay their respects.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin 8.

It will also be open to the public, however, access is expected to be extremely limited due to the numbers of people expected to attend.

Music at the singer’s funeral will be provided by Glen’s family and friends.

A public address system will be in place for those gathered outside in the cathedral grounds.

His funeral mass will also be streamed on RTE News and Rip.ie for those who are not able to attend.

Glen’s family have asked, in lieu of flowers or gifts, for donations to be made to either the Simon Community or Ukrainian Action.
