Three dead & 7 injured after ‘gunman opens fire in chaotic shooting’ outside In-N-Out as suspect turned rifle on himself

THREE people have been killed and seven more injured after a gunman opened fire at an In-N-Out burger chain in Idaho before turning the rifle on himself.

The shooter was pronounced dead on Saturday night after unloading a barrage of shots on helpless victims in the drive-thru area of the restaurant.

Terrified bystanders were seen running for their lives across the car park as the suspect fired a large AR-style assault weapon.

Another possible shooter was seen firing a handgun, but it was not clear if they were a secondary gunman or a responding witness.

Idaho Falls city spokesperson Josh Palmer said at least three people had lost their lives and seven others were injured.

Police who responded to the shooting found the body of the suspected gunman in an area near the restaurant, he added.

Duane Rubink, chief of the neighbouring Jerome Police Department, told CNN the shooter died from a “self-inflicted gunshot”.

Police are still trying to determine the shooter’s identity and motive.

“We believe the threat to the community is over”, Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks said.

“It was a very chaotic scene”, he added.

Bullets began ringing out at around 3pm local time, with shocking footage showing dozens of people fleeing for their lives.

The suspect drove up to the chain’s drive-thru before exiting a white vehicle and retrieving a rifle from the trunk.

The restaurant is located in a busy shopping plaza, with hundreds of people in the area when chaos struck.

Wearing a black T-shirt and blue trousers, the man was seen walking through the car park before shooting through a Tesla‘s windscreen.

Witness Lane Koehn, 34, said he was at a stoplight near the In-N-Out when he saw a person with an AR-style rifle emerge from the drive-thru.

The shooter fired at least three or four rounds, he said.

Then someone in an In-N-Out uniform dragged a person, also uniformed, bleeding from a gunshot wound in her chest across the parking lot, he said.

“She was pretty bad off, but I don’t know. I hope she made it”, Koehn said.

A second shooter was seen firing at the suspect with witnesses claiming he was a heroic bystander.

Twin Falls resident Haley Dodaro, 43, was having lunch in In-N-Out with her mum when she saw people running across the street.

“People were running out crying and screaming”, she said.

Police said multiple people were taken to St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center.

Some of the people injured are in critical condition, Palmer said.

Officials were still working on notifying the family members of victims.

Names, ages and other details of those wounded in the shooting have not been released.

The FBI confirmed it would be assisting in the ongoing investigation.
