‘Miracle’ escape as man thrown through sunroof of car in horrific crash after vehicle hit verge on side of rural road

A MAN miraculously walked away from a horror car crash yesterday after he was ejected from his sunroof.
Sharing a photo of the wreck after the crash in the Causeway Coast and Glens area of Northern Ireland, the PSNI said first responders were “shocked” that the lad was still alive.
They described the black car as having been “absolutely smashed to smithereens in a field” with clothes and other items spread across the field.
The man escaped with only injuries to his head and arms.
The PSNI said when officers came over the brow of a hill and first saw the crashed vehicle they “assumed the worst”.
They had only been told a rough location and that a man had been ejected from the car when the alarm was raised by a member of the public.
A spokesperson said: “As you can see the driver’s side roof was entirely crushed in and the male was ejected via the sunroof.
“It is a miracle that he didn’t receive life changing injuries or worse. Even the two first responders from Northern Ireland Ambulance Service were shocked!”
The car had been travelling down a quiet rural road with grass verges on either side.
When the driver of the crashed car moved to the side to allow another vehicle to pass, he caught the grass verge.
The spokesperson continued: “Unfortunately this male caught the verge, oversteered, panicked and wound up rolling into the hedge and down the field.”
The motorist who had just passed the car as they navigated the road together noticed what had happened in his mirrors.
He immediately rang the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.
Another two people from a local business rushed to the scene and bandaged up the drivers injuries.
The PSNI said: “We are just so thankful that no lives were lost and for the immediate call for help and first aid by the passing members of the public.”
