Boy, 17, has leg amputated after ‘absolutely devastating’ stabbing at Barry Island over Bank Holiday

A 17-YEAR-OLD boy has had his leg amputated after an “absolutely devastating” stabbing incident over the Bank Holiday.

The teen, from Cardiff, suffered a serious injury to his leg on Monday, May 25.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on Barry Island, South Wales, and the wounded teen was taken to hospital to receive critical care.

The force has since confirmed that the boy’s leg has been amputated.

An 18-year-old was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and remains on bail as cops probe the violent incident.

South Wales Police initially said they did not believe the 17-year-old’s injury was life changing.

However, Detective Inspector Sarah Lee said the wound was far more serious than first thought.

Specialist officers are supporting the teen’s family as police continue to investigate the stabbing.

The force said investigators are combing through hundreds of hours of CCTV footage in the wake of the incident.

She said: “The extent and seriousness of the injury sustained by the teenage victim is absolutely devastating.

“Understandably his family are distraught, and they have been assigned a specially trained family liaison officer for additional support.”
