Motorcyclist, 30s, killed in crash involving car in Cork as road reopened after closure and gardai appeal for

A MOTORCYCLIST was killed in a crash this afternoon, with gardai now appealing for witnesses to the collision.

The horror smash happened on the N71 at Caha Pass in Co Cork at around 2.55pm today.

It involved a car and a motorcycle and the motorcyclist, a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was taken to Cork University Hospital, where a post-mortem is due to take place.

There were no other injuries reported and the road was closed for a time for a forensic examination but has since reopened.

Gardai are now appealing for witnesses.

They said in a statement this evening: “Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the N71 at Caha Pass, Co. Cork, this afternoon, Thursday 20th August 2026, at approximately 2:55pm.

“The collision involved a car and a motorcycle.

“The motorcyclist, a man aged in his 30’s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“His body has since been removed to the mortuary at Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

“No other injuries were reported at the time.

“The road was closed for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators which has been completed and has now reopened.

“Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward.

“Road users who were travelling on the N71 between Glengarriff and Kenmare at Caha Pass, Co. Cork, today, Thursday 20th August 2026 between 2.15pm and 2.45pm and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make it available to investigating Gardaí.
