Tragedy as girl, 3, dies after getting trapped in wooden oven playset at babysitter’s home while trying to find her toys
A TODDLER has suffocated to death after reportedly being wedged inside a wooden toy oven at her babysitter’s home in Florida.
Three-year-old Briella Holmes is said to have become trapped inside the kitchen playset while trying to find toys inside.
Responders were called to a home in the Meadows of Boynton Beach community on July 23.
Fire crews rushed the girl to the hospital in a critical condition but she tragically died four days later.
A babysitter was taking care of Briella along with her sibling when the tragic accident happened.
Boynton Beach police said that the babysitter left the house to go to a shop and left the children in the hands of her partner .
The children were reportedly downstairs playing on their own with the carer occasionally coming down to give them snacks.
On one occasion, the babysitter’s partner came down and saw Briella stuck in the wooden playset.
They freed her and immediately began attempting life-saving measures until first responders arrived, according to cops.
A Palm Beach County Medical Examiner report declared that she died from probable positional asphyxia and ruled her death as an accident.
Positional asphyxia is a type of suffocation where the body’s position prevents one from breathing properly.
Cops said: “This investigation remains active and ongoing.”
“The Boynton Beach Police Department will not be making any additional statements at this time.”
Investigators said that the kitchen playset had been bought second-hand via Facebook Marketplace.
It bore no markings of the brand, manufacturer or model.
A GoFundMe page has said that “Briella was a bright light in the lives of so many.”
“She had a kind heart, a beautiful spirit, and a smile that could light up any room.”
