Dublin man, 25, dies suddenly in Spain just weeks before birthday as family in ‘complete shock’ and tributes pour

TRIBUTES have poured in for a “lovely young man” who passed away suddenly in Spain on Thursday.

Adam Gilchrist, from East Wall in Dublin, died suddenly last week while on holiday, leaving his family, friends and local community devastated.

The 25-year-old has been remembered as a kind and popular young man who was an “incredible role model” for younger people in the area.

Adam, who was due to celebrate his 26th birthday next month, was the “beloved son” of Caroline and Denis and loving brother of Leanne, Mairead and Davina.

A death notice said he will be “very sadly missed” by his loving family, including his niece Maci, brothers-in-law Steven, Gary and Jordan, cousin Jason, close friends and girlfriend Ana, as well as his aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.

Adam was also a gifted sportsman, having played football with Belvedere FC and been a member of Dublin Docklands Boxing Club.

Heartbreaking tributes have since been shared for Adam online.

One person wrote: “So very sorry for your loss Caroline Denis and all Adam’s family. Adam was a lovely young man. May he rest in peace.”

Another said: “We lost a friend, cousin and a brother. Hope everything up there is at peace. Genuinely most down to earth person around, never chat to Giller and leave without a smile on your face.

“We lost an incredible role model for the young people in the area. He forever did everyone proud. What a blessing it was to know you personally. You will never be forgotten. Love you always Adam my guy.”

Another mourner remembered Adam for always having a smile and a kind word for those he met.

They said: “My deepest condolences to Caroline, family and friends, on your devastating loss. My heart aches for you all.

“Adam never passed by me without a lovely smile, and a kind wish to have a good day. Rest peacefully, Adam.”

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been launched to help the family with funeral costs.

In a message shared on the page, a spokesperson for the fundraiser said: “As a community, we are devastated and deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic loss of Adam abroad. His passing has left his family, friends, and everyone who knew him in complete shock.

“Adam was only 25 years old, and no family could ever imagine having to face the heartbreak of losing a loved one so suddenly and unexpectedly.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his mother, Caroline, and his entire family during this incredibly difficult time.

“We would like to come together as a community to support Caroline and the family in any way we can, particularly with the funeral and associated costs.

“Any contribution, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated and will go towards helping Adam’s family give him the farewell he deserves. Thank you to everyone for your kindness, support, and generosity during this heartbreaking time.”

Funeral arrangements have also now been confirmed.

Adam will lie in repose at his home on Monday, from 5pm until 7pm, August 24.

His Requiem Mass will take place at 10am on Tuesday, August 25, at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes on Sean McDermott Street, followed by burial in Fingal Cemetery.

Adam’s Funeral Mass will also be available to view online via a live webstream.

The family has requested family flowers only, with donations, if desired, to The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.
