‘Heaviest of hearts’ funeral details for ‘little angel’ boy, 2, killed playing on toy tractor in Limerick hit-and-run

THE funeral of a two-year-old boy who died after being struck by a car in Co Limerick is set to take place on Wednesday.

Toddler Peter Mulcaire, who just started playschool last week, was pronounced dead after he suffered catastrophic injuries when he was hit by a car on Saturday afternoon in the Abbeycourt area of Rathkeale, Co Limerick.

Gardai arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant.

The little boy had been playing on a toy tractor when he was hit by the car and died.

His funeral arrangements were announced today ahead of the wake tomorrow and funeral on Wednesday.

Along with a picture of the toddler standing beside a balloon, the post read: “It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the sudden and unexpected death of our beautiful little boy Peter Mulcaire aged just two years.

“Predeceased by members of the Harty and Mulcaire Families.

“Deeply mourned and forever loved by his heartbroken parents Kerrie and James, his loving brother Jim and sister Delilah, grandparents, great- grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, extended Harty and Mulcaire Families.

“Forever our Little Angel, May He Rest in Eternal Peace

“Peter will repose in Cross’s Funeral Home, Gerald Griffin Street, Limerick on Tuesday September 8 from 6pm to 8pm, followed by removal to St. Mary’s Church Rathkeale.

“Mass of the Angels will take place on Wednesday at 11.30am, followed by burial in the new Cemetery Rathkeale.”

His aunt, Teresa Harty also posted the funeral details online and asked those attending not to take any photos or videos.

She also stated: “R.I.P our blue eyed boy. Flowers are blue cream and gold.”

She paid tribute to her nephew following his death and explained how special he was to the family, she said: “He was just a special blonde boy who had skin like butter.

“He meant the world to us all, his uncles and aunts. He was just a loveable boy, he was too good for this bad world.

“He was his mother’s life, she thought the moon and stars of him. Golden boy she called him.

“And his daddy was his best friend and his older brother Jim, they were three best friends.”

While Jessie Hehir, who is a cousin of the toddler’s mother Kerrie said: “Heart-breaking thinking of my cousin Kerrie Mulcaire and uncle Peter’s family on the loss of their little boy. Rest in peace baby Peter.”

Meanwhile, another friend of the family posted a moving post on Facebook which read: “Never been sadder, only an innocent little baby. God rest his little soul.

“This world can be cruel at times. It’s so heart-breaking thinking of my husband’s niece Kerrie Mulcaire and her husband Jim and extended families on the loss of their beautiful little baby Peter.

“RIP little angel. So sorry for your loss.”
