Terrifying moment car forced to swerve to avoid wrong-way driver on Irish motorway as innocent motorists left in ‘shock’
THIS is the terrifying moment cars were forced to swerve out of the way as a car driving the wrong way sped down an Irish motorway.
The shocking incident happened on the M2 in Co Meath at around 3pm last Thursday.

Connor, who filmed the car driving the wrong-way down the M2, shared his disbelief with The Irish Sun the scary experience.
On the dash-cam footage, shared with The Irish Sun by the driver, cars on the other side of the busy stretch can be seen frantically flashing moments before the wrong-way driver comes into view.
The dark coloured vehicle hurtled towards Connor in the outer lane of the northbound stretch on September 10.
His dashcam footage shows one car in front of him swerve completely out of the right lane as the car approaches.
However, a BMW driver with N plates only managed to get half their car into the left lane before the car passed.
Thankfully the driver was able to swerve back into the outer lane and avoid colliding with Connor’s car just seconds after the wrong-way driver had passed.
A terrified “oh God” cry can be heard in the audio of the dash-cam footage from the near miss.
Speaking to The Irish Sun after the experience Connor told us he was left in shock.
He said: “Honestly at first it was a bit of confusion as the cars on the opposite side of the motorway were flashing their lights like crazy so I knew there was something ahead but definitely did not expect a car coming the opposite direction towards me!
“It was mostly shock and just making sure I get out of the way and nobody crashes. Afterwards I felt disbelief like did that just happen.”
Gardai were dispatched to the scene after the shocking dangerous driving was reported.
However, the vehicle was no longer on the motorway when Gardai arrived.
In a statement a spokesperson told us: “Gardai attended the scene follow report of an alleged incident of dangerous driving on the M2 at Junction 3, Northbound, that occurred on Thursday 10th September 2026 at approximately 3.35pm.
“On arrival, the vehicle was no longer at the scene.”
