‘Taken far too soon’ – Heartbreaking tributes pour for Irish ‘gentleman’ who died ‘unexpectedly’ in Sweden

TRIBUTES have poured in for an Irish “gentleman” who passed away unexpectedly in Sweden.

Derek Carr, from Kilconly, Co Galway, has been remembered fondly by those who knew him following his sudden passing abroad.

The Galway man is survived by his heartbroken parents Michael and Josephine, his sisters Lorraine, Bernie, Aisling and Sinead, and his brothers Declan and twin brother Donal.

He will also be sadly missed by his brothers-in-law Kieran Clohessy and Declan Connolly, sister-in-law Denise, nieces Michaela, Mia and Ella, and nephews Kielan, Shaun, Kieran, Niall, Alex and Ryan.

Derek is also mourned by his grandnephews Rian and Noah, as well as his aunts, uncles, relatives, neighbours and wide circle of friends.

And many have since paid tribute to the well-known man.

One person wrote: “I enjoyed Derek’s company in many countries and he was always an absolute gentleman. May that man rest in peace and his family find solace in the fact they reared a fine, fine boy.”

Another added: “Such very sad news, such a young man taken far too soon.

“May his gentle soul rest in peace. My sincere sympathy to his mam, dad, his brothers and sisters and all his extended family at this very difficult time. A hard cross to bear.”

And his funeral details have now been confirmed.

Derek will repose at Kilconly Community Centre this evening from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.

His funeral will arrive at St Conleth’s Church, Kilconly, on Friday for Funeral Mass at 12 noon, followed by burial in Kilconly Cemetery.

Family flowers only have been requested. Donations, if desired, can be made to Diabetes Ireland in Derek’s memory.

The Carr family said they “welcome and appreciate” all thoughts and condolences at this time.
