Heartache as teenage sisters, 19 & 14, lose both ‘loving’ mum & dad in 2 months and pals make funeral fund plea

TWO teenage sisters have been left devastated following the loss of their “loving” parents, who passed away within just two months of each other.

Jayne Moyes, 19, and her young sister Sophie, 14, from Belfast, have tragically lost both of their parents Dominic Hopkins and Noleen Moyes.

Jayne and Sophie’s mum Noleen Moyes passed away in hospital after suffering a brain aneurysm on Thursday, June 11, while their dad Dominic died following a suspected accident after a medical incident on April 19.

Speaking to Belfast Live, Jayne said she is still struggling to come to terms with the loss of her parents.

She said: “My mum was the type of person who would talk to and be friends with anyone. She was always there for you and would go out of her way to help anyone who was in need.

“I still can’t believe that she is gone, it just doesn’t feel real at all.

“My dad was such a big personality who was full of emotions and really was one of a kind.

“There is no way that anything would be able to replace not having them in our lives”.

A GoFundMe page was launched by Jayne’s friend Daniel Nevin to help reduce the financial pressure on them at such a difficult time.

He said: “This GoFundMe is to raise money for a dear friend of mine Jayne, 19, and her young sister Sophie, 14.

“On the 19th of April 2026, Jayne and Sophie’s father Dominic sadly passed away.

“Fighting through grief and tears Jayne paid off a large sum of the funeral costs herself and stayed strong for her little sister.

“Still struggling with the grief of losing their father, their mother Noleen sadly passed away today, the 11th of June 2026.”

Daniel continued: “Losing one parent is an experience that not a lot of people are prepared to face head on, especially at Jayne and Sophie’s ages. Sadly losing both parents in such a small space of time is something absolutely nobody deserves to experience.

“This fundraiser is to help reduce the financial pressure on Jayne and Sophie at such a difficult time.”

The fundraiser was launched a day ago with a goal of £4,500 (€5,205).

Over 175 kind donations have been made so far, raising just over £3,852 (€4,455) to help the Belfast sisters cope with the financial costs of the funerals.

Mum Noleen’s funeral service is set to take place at Roselawn Crematorium on Wednesday, June 17, at 1:20pm.

Her funeral notice reads: “Noleen died peacefully in RVH surrounded by her loving family on 11 June.

“Loving mum to her two daughters Jayne and Sophie. Loving daughter of Pauline and Robert, will be greatly missed by her sisters and brothers Shauneen, Robert, Daniel, Mark and Ashleen.

“Also missed by her entire family circle. Noleen was someone who always had a laugh, brought light into every room, and will be missed more than words can say by her heartbroken family and friends.”

Locals have shared their devastation at Noleen’s passing, with dozens paying tribute to the “loving” mum.

One mourner said: “My big sister my best friend. Love you so much.”

Someone else added: “My beautiful sister gone to soon.. Will be missed by everyone.”

A third wrote: “Heartbreaking for her wee family – I couldn’t believe it.

“Post funniest wee person, live soul party. Praying for her daughters and family. Life is so hard –  hugs sent to heaven. Shine bright.”
