PALLASGREEN-TEMPLEBRADEN is joining together as one in solidarity with two men who brought immense pride to the parish.
Former GAA club players Mike Deere and Gerry Gammell, both aged in their 50s, won county titles with Pallasgreen. Mike was on the 1994 junior football title winning team, which ended a 38-year wait, while Gerry played on the triumphant 1995 intermediate hurling side.
Sadly, both men have been diagnosed with cancer in recent times.
A quiz, auction and raffle has been organised to help defray their medical costs at this tough time for them and their families. It takes place at 9pm this Friday night, September 25 in The Red Deer, Pallasgreen.
Mike has been in New York for over 30 years but Limerick remains home. One of the organisers of the fundraiser said: “He’s an avid Limerick GAA fan and attends, whenever he can, all the Limerick GAA functions in New York.
“Earlier this month, he was delighted to meet Limerick hurling manager John Kiely and players Gearóid Hegarty, Sean Finn and Cathal O’Neill at the launch of the Club Limerick New York fundraising night coming up next November. That visit definitely gave him a huge lift.”
Gerry (pictured above with his cherished grandchildren – Scott , Hayden, Brooke and Abbie) is also a big Limerick hurling supporter, as well as being passionate about clay target shooting, winning All-Ireland and provincial titles just like the hurlers.
He was on the Limerick team in 2024 that made history as the first one to win the All Ireland DTL.
Organisers have sourced some fantastic prizes for the auction and raffle which will take place on the night. They include Pallasgreen and Limerick goalkeeper Colin Ryan’s All-Ireland winning jersey; top from John Kiely, signed hurley from Aaron Gillane; two-night get away at the Woodlands House Hotel; trailer of firewood and a number of superb hampers.

Organisers sincerely thank everybody who donated the prizes and say all are welcome to attend to help alleviate some of the financial burden facing Mike, Gerry and their loved ones.
