TRAGIC LOSS

‘Beautiful’ mum-of-two dies in hospital from ‘life-ending brain injury’ sustained in rickshaw crash after Westlife gig

HEARTBREAKING tributes have been paid to a “devoted” mum-of-two who tragically passed away in hospital following a horror road crash.

Danielle O’Keane, aged in her 30s from Newry, sadly lost her fight for life on Thursday, October 1, after spending days in intensive care.

The tragic incident occurred at around 11pm on Saturday, September 26, when Danielle is believed to have fallen from a rickshaw and been struck by a vehicle at North Wall Quay in Dublin 1.

She had been on her way to meet her husband following a Westlife concert in the 3Arena.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, and Danielle was taken by ambulance to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital.

Doctors treated her for severe brain injuries, placing her on a ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit, but tragically, despite the best efforts of medical staff, she passed away surrounded by her loving family.

A death notice published on Friday paid tribute to Danielle as the much-loved wife of Dave and adoring mother to two young boys; five-year-old Caolan and two-year-old Cillian.

She was also described as the beloved daughter of Michael and Pauline, and a dear sister to Barry and her twin brother, Sean.

As her family struggle to come to terms with the news, a GoFundMe page – set up by her aunt Jackie Mullan – has more than £114,000 to support her heartbroken loved ones.

Hundreds of heartfelt tributes have flooded in online, remembering Danielle as a “gentle soul” with a warm smile.

One former classmate posted: “The most beautiful girl and devoted mum. I am just so sorry to hear this awful news.

“I will miss Danielle’s warm smile and chat at the school gates. Sending love, prayers and strength to Danielle’s husband, children and entire family at this terrible time.”

Another friend wrote: “Danielle was a beautiful, kind-hearted girl who didn’t deserve for this to happen. Keeping all her family in my thoughts and prayers.”

A third  tribute read: “Just no words — a lovely and friendly girl. Thinking of her two beautiful boys, her husband and her entire family who will have been left with a massive hole in their hearts now!”

Danielle’s funeral details are expected to be announced in the coming days.
