Horror as person ‘forced into large bin’ and pushed onto Dublin train tracks in ‘appalling attack’ with fatality averted

A “FATAL” incident was narrowly avoided after a person was allegedly forced into a bin before it was pushed onto train tracks in north Dublin.
The horrific incident took place at Harmonstown DART station in Dublin shortly before 8.10pm on Sunday evening.
A group allegedly forced the victim into a large bin before pushing it onto the tracks with the person still inside.
The victim sustained injuries from falling onto the tracks following the “appalling attack” yesterday.
The victim was able to immediately get off the track and back onto the platform.
However, the driver of a northbound train service saw the bin, which was still on the tracks, and brought the train to a halt in time.
A spokesperson for Iarnrod Eireann confirmed the individual had been “forced into a large bin” by a group of unidentified assailants.
They noted that the incident could be “fatal” if the individual had been incapacitated by the fall.
An Iarnrod Eireann spokesperson told the Irish Sun: “A group forced an individual into a large bin before pushing it with the victim inside onto the tracks, with the victim sustaining injuries from fall.
“This was an appalling attack which had the potential to be much worse.
“While the victim was able to immediately got off the track and back onto the platform, the driver of a Northbound DART saw the bin which was still on the tracks as the train approached and brought the DART to a halt in time.
“However, had the individual been incapacitated by the fall, an express service such as an Enterprise or Commuter service would have taken a much longer time to stop with the obvious potential for serious or fatal injury.
“Ambulance services, Gardai and our own security and infrastructure staff attended, and services were delayed for 18 minutes.
“We have retained CCTV to assist Gardai with their investigation, and ask anyone with further information to contact the Gardai”.
The Irish Sun has contacted An Garda Siochana for a statement.
