Gardai have launched an investigation into the criminal damage incident at the house in Castletroy
THE HOUSE destroyed by students on the outskirts of the city was valued at €445,000, Limerick Live can reveal.
Tens of thousands of euros of damage was caused to the semi-detached property in College Close, College Court, Castletroy in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Footage of the incident – which occurred during a large after-hours party – has gone viral on social media. Videos portray young people causing extensive destruction to the house located in an estate, which is popular with students attending the nearby University of Limerick.
Our slideshow features photos of the house prior to Wednesday’s incident featuring what appears to be the book shelf that was thrown out the window.
The six-bedroom abode was brought to the market last October with an asking price of €445,000. The selling agents said “the property is well maintained and ready for occupation” as the photographs demonstrate.
The new owners had the option of converting a garage to a seventh bedroom.
According to promotional material, investors will be drawn to this lucrative investment opportunity with close proximity to the University of Limerick making this “an ideal opportunity to acquire a property with superb rental potential”.
“The property is well maintained and ready for occupation boasting well proportioned living and bedroom accommodation. There are four bedrooms upstairs and two further bedrooms on the ground floor. Gas fired central heating system. Side entrance to rear garden.
“Good off street parking with some guest parking across the road. Easily accessible pedestrian entrance to the nearby University Campus. Much sought after location for student accommodation. Inspection is highly recommended,” reads the promotional material.
Despite “sale agreed” being stated on the advert online, there is no listing of a sale price on the Property Price Register to date.
Gardai have launched an investigation into the criminal damage incident and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
