Gardai launch search for man after woman, 40s, subjected to terrifying assault while on lunchtime walk at beauty spot

GARDAI have launched a major probe after a woman was subjected to a terrifying assault while out walking last weekend.

The horror incident took place near Cheekpoint, Co Waterford at the Minaun forest walk around 12.30pm.

The woman, 40s, was out for a lunchtime stroll when she was approached by a man and attacked.

After the attack, the man fled the scene on foot and the distraught woman alerted authorities.

The man is described as middle aged with a slim build.

He is roughly 5ft 10 inches in height with long hair and a long, dark beard.

He was reportedly wearing a dark jacket and dark trousers.

In an appeal via via WLR FM in Waterford, Gardai asked anyone with information to come forward.

They said: “If you can provide any relevant information please contact the crime unit at Waterford Garda Station on (051) 305300, the Garda Confidential Line on (1800) 666111 or your nearest garda station.”

A spokesperson for gardai said: “Gardaí responded to reports of an alleged assault in the Minaun, Cheekpoint, Co. Waterford on Saturday 5th September 2026 at approximately 12:30pm.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
