Baby girl found dead strapped in car seat after ‘grandma forgot nursery drop-off and left her in vehicle for 8 hours’

A BABY died after her grandmother left her inside a blistering hot car for eight hours instead of dropping her off at daycare, it has been alleged.

Scottie Gwyn Crowell, who was only 10-months-old, was found strapped in the backseat of the vehicle, where temperatures had reached 46C.

Her grandmother, Dr Stacey Fazenbaker, had offered to pick her up from home and drive her to daycare in Madisonville, Kentucky.

When Scottie’s father went to pick her up at 4pm on August 13, staff told him that she was never dropped off that morning, the Daily Mail reported.

The family quickly learned that Fazenbaker had instead gone straight to work at Owensboro Health Multicare – and forgotten the little girl in the car, WEHT reported.

Madisonville Police Major Jason McKnight said Fazenbaker “ran outside with some co-workers to get the child” – but it was already too late.

“Officers arrived on scene, Med Center and the fire department arrived shortly after they did and they found the infant,” he said.

“The grandmother had already got the child, and the officers tried some lifesaving measures, but unfortunately it was too late for that.”

He added: “Anybody who loses a child obviously is going to be very upset, and this is no different.

“So yes, the families were all there and more came, after the fact. But yes, for this community, it’s a pretty big deal.”

Fazenbaker was tested for drugs and alcohol, but police do not anticipate positive results.

No charges have been filed as officers continue to investigate the case.

McKnight added: “As the picture becomes clearer on how this could have possibly happened, there is a possibility charges are sought before the grand jury convenes.”

An autopsy was carried out to determine the cause of death. The results will be available in several weeks.

Tributes have poured in for Scottie, describing her as a “beautiful and precious angel that was taken way too soon.”

“I do not know Scottie personally, but I felt like I did through her mom,” read one of the heartfelt messages in an online obituary book made by the baby’s parents.

“Dr Crowell has helped me as my OB/ GYN in so many ways. My heart breaks for the family and I pray you find peace in the coming days. Scottie was such a beautiful miracle.”
