Teen cyclist killed in Meath hit-and-run crash involving van as gardai issue urgent witness

A TEEN cyclist has died following a hit-and-run in Co Meath tonight.

The crash, involving a van and a bicycle, occurred at Nugentstown, Kells around 8.05pm.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after the alarm was raised.

Gardai said the van driver fled he scene after the collision.

The cyclist, an adult male aged in his late teens, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. 

His body was taken to the mortuary at Our Lady’s Hospital Navan, where a postmortem examination will take place in due course.

The coroner has been notified and the road remains closed tonight with local diversions in place.

A garda spokesperson said: “Gardai are appealing for witnesses following a fatal hit-and-run road traffic collision at Nugentstown, Kells, Co Meath, on the evening of Tuesday 25th August 2026.

“The collision involving a van and a bicycle occurred at approximately 8.05pm.”

Cops are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with camera footage in the area at the time to make contact with them.

Gardai added: “Anyone who may have been travelling in the area of Nugentstown, Kells, Co Meath, on Tuesday August 25, 2026 between 7:30pm and 8:30pm, and who may have camera footage, including dash cam or mobile phone recordings are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardai.
