Man, 35, charged with murder after beloved dad, 36, shot dead at traveller site as two others also accused
A MAN has been charged with murder after a beloved dad was shot dead at a traveller site – as two others have also been accused.
Jimmy Ward, 36, was declared dead at the scene of the incident near Cricklade, Wiltshire, at about 8.15am on Sunday.
Wiltshire Police said Shane Porter, of Calcutt Park, Calcutt, has been charged with Mr Ward’s murder and possession of a shotgun without a certificate.
He has been remanded in custody and is to appear before magistrates via videolink on Thursday.
Eddie Porter, 74, and Tammy Brown, 42, both of Luton, Bedfordshire, have each been charged with assisting an offender and possession of a shotgun without a certificate.
They are also in custody and are due to appear at court on the same day.
A cordon and a white forensic tent were put in place after emergency services, including armed cops, scrambled to the scene over the weekend.
It’s believed that Jimmy leaves behind a wife and children with tributes laid at at Calcutt traveller site following his death.
“RIP to my daughter-in-law’s dad Jimmy Ward. Please everyone pray for all the family, my heart goes out to them all,” wrote one mourner.
“Very hard to believe. Rest in heavenly peace my cousin Jimmy Ward,” added another.
“Thinking of all the family and friends at this very sad time, sending lots of love to his wife and children. Far too young to die, rest in peace,” said another local.
Others have described him as “a gentleman”.
Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker, who passed on his condolences to Mr Ward’s next of kin, said: “A scene and increased policing presence will remain at the site in the coming days while further activity is carried out.
“I’d like to express again my thanks to the local community for their patience and support since Sunday.
“I appreciate the significant concern this incident has generated, so please consider speaking with officers about any information or concerns you may have.”
The force said that two other men who were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender have been released on bail.
