Newborn baby found dead in portaloo at Electric Forest music festival as cops urge witnesses to come forward
A NEWBORN baby was found dead inside a portaloo at an outdoor music festival – with cops urging witnesses to come forward.
The infant’s body was discovered by a horrified worker carrying out routine maintenance at the Electric Forest campgrounds in Michigan.
The four-day festival, which began on Thursday, features dozens of EDM DJs and is hosted at Double JJ Ranch in Rothbury.
Police announced the grim discovery on Sunday – the festival’s final day – and appealed for attendees who noticed anything unusual.
They did not release the baby’s exact age or any additional information about the incident, but added that there was no immediate danger to the public.
“We appreciate the public’s cooperation and ask that people avoid speculation on social media out of respect for the investigation and those affected,” state police said on social media.
Electric Forest’s Instagram account issued a statement about the tragedy, writing: “Forest Family, it causes us so much pain to have to share this difficult news with you.
“The Michigan State Police continue to investigate this tragic event if you can assist in any way.
“HQ is heartbroken and knows that our Forest Family is as well.”
It comes just days after a three-month-old baby was found dead by a river in Germany.
Dijana L. is now accused of killing her child, Adrian, and leaving his body on the outskirts of Rankbach in Baden-Württemberg.
She told cops that the infant had been snatched from his pram, but cops found no evidence to suggest the baby was abducted.
He was later found a third of a mile from their home and attention was immediately turned on Ms L.
She claims she had taken him to the Rewe supermarket, near to their home in Malmsheimer Straße.
His grandmother told Bild: “My daughter came home from shopping, she had bags with her and wanted to carry them up to the second floor.”
She left the boy in his stroller on the pavement in front of the house, but claimed he was gone when she returned.
A huge manhunt was launched immediately after the missing persons report was filed.
Drones, helicopters, firefighters and 40 rescue dogs were deployed to scour the area for any sign of the missing baby.
The soaring temperatures in the region added an extra layer of terror to the search.
Cadaver dogs – trained to sniff out decomposing bodies – were part of the operation.
Police began at the scene of the crime and worked outwards in a circular pattern.
The search was called off after the discovery of the deceased infant the next day, on June 19.
