Man, 70s, dies in hospital after single-car crash on busy Co Meath road as gardai launch probe & issue witness plea

A MAN in his 70s has died in hospital following a single-car crash in Co Meath yesterday.

The collision took place on the busy N51 road at Janeville in Slane shortly after 10:40am yesterday morning.

The driver of the only car involved in the crash, a man aged in his 70s, was treated at the scene yesterday and taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

He was sadly pronounced dead in hospital later that day. The coroner has been notified.

Gardai have launched an investigation into the crash and yesterday closed off the road for a short time. The route has since reopened.

Officers have urged anyone who may be able to assist in the probe to come forward.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

“Road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N51 near Janeville, Slane, Co Meath on Tuesday 18th August 2026 between 10:15am and 10:45am are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardai.
