Huge blaze erupts at industrial estate sparking evacuation as plumes of smoke seen for miles

A HUGE fire has erupted in the early hours of the morning at an industrial estate, forcing locals to be evacuated from the area.

Firefighters rushed to the scene at Star Trading Estate, Caerleon, Newport at around 2.40am today.

Ten fire engines, an aerial ladder platform and a range of specialist firefighting equipment was used to tackle the inferno.

Pictures show the fire raging, with massive black plumes of smoke rising high into the air.

Fire crews remain at the scene, working to bring the fire under control.

Aerial images reveal the extent of the damage caused by the fire, with the building’s roof caved in and charred surfaces.

In a statement, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews remain in attendance at a large industrial fire at Star Trading Estate, Caerleon, Newport.

“The site has been evacuated, and all persons are accounted for.

“Members of the public are urged to avoid the area to allow emergency services to carry out their work.

“Due to smoke in the vicinity, residents are also advised to keep windows and doors closed.

“SWFRS is working closely with Gwent Police and partner agencies to help ensure public safety. Thank you for your co-operation.”

The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed and no information has been released regarding any injuries.

Investigations are expected to begin once the fire has been extinguished.

Motorists and residents are advised to avoid the area while firefighting operations continue.
