Irish haulage service confirms closure over ‘extortionate fuel prices’ with grim ‘decision made for us’ message

AN IRISH transport company has announced it will stop haulage services at the end of the month due to rising fuel prices.
Little Island Recovery and Haulage confirmed their decision on social media, with one local hailing it as a “sad day”.
The family run business, Little Island Recovery & Haulage, was established in 2020 by founder Roy Kearney of Kearney’s Coaches, Co. Cork.
In a statement, the company said: “Unfortunately due to the extortionate fuel prices and current climate our haulage side will cease trading on the 31st of October.
“All our haulage vehicles and trailers are for sale with immediate effect.
“Our recovery services are still going to be operational.”
The company offered a range of services within the haulage and logistics sector to clients throughout Ireland, the UK and Europe.
Since 2020, Little Island Haulage has completed over 3,500 jobs in over 45 countries.
One local said: “Only the first of many Roy, sorry to hear this news”.
While another wrote: “Very sad to see this happen. A business that is well located and should be growing in strength. Unfortunately I think we will see many more posts like this very soon.”
Many followers wished the company “the best of luck” in the future with one saying: “It’s a hard game now for the owners and drivers”.
Another local said: “We fought hard to bring down fuel, we told the government that jobs would be lost if they didn’t act and I’m sorry to say we are right.”
Its sister company, Little Island Recovery, will still be operational.
They will continue to offer 24-hour towing and roadside assistance, with a range of vehicle rescue services in Cork and surrounding areas.
Since their announcement this week, Little Island Recovery & Haulage sent thanks to everyone for their “supportive messages and comments”.
Bosses said: “Unfortunately this decision was made for us and by the messages received in the last 24 hours we won’t be the only ones.”
