Teen, 17, arrested and being quizzed by gardai investigating fatal stabbing of Qayyum Balogun, 21, in Dublin city

A TEEN has been arrested as part of the investigation into the fatal stabbing of a music promoter in Dublin city centre last weekend.

Qayyum Balogun, 21, was found attacked and stabbed on Dublin’s Clarendon Street in the early hours of Monday morning.

He had been chased by a number of men from a gig at Bewley’s on Grafton Street.

The innocent victim, who worked as a music promoter, was stabbed three times and later pronounced dead at St James’ Hospital.

Gardai confirmed tonight that a teenage male, understood to be 17, was arrested as part of the ongoing investigation.

They said in a statement: “Gardai in Pearse Street continue to investigate a fatal assault which occurred on Clarendon Street, Dublin 2 in the early hours of Monday 1st June, 2026.

“Today, Friday 5th June 2026, a male juvenile (aged in his mid-teens) was arrested in connection with the investigation.

“He is currently detained pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda Station in the Dublin area.

“Investigations are ongoing.”

Gardai have launched a major investigation into the death of innocent computer science student Qayyum.

As part of the investigation, various searches have taken place at different locations around the country, including Galway, Cork and the capital.

Cops seized several phones and are trawling them for evidence.

One of the main suspects in the case is a violent thug in his 20s, currently on bail for a blade attack who has fled to Scotland and remains at large.

Reacting to his son’s death, Qayyum’s father Ibrahim told us: “I’ve lost my best friend.”
