Man, 40s, dies in suspected Leitrim stabbing as gardai arrest man, 30s, & seal scene amid ‘all circumstances’ probe

A MAN has died in a suspected stabbing incident at a house in Co Leitrim, the Irish Sun has learned. 

The victim, in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene last night in Arderry, which is near the townland of Corrawaleen.

Another man in his 30s was arrested at the property and is in Garda custody. 

The incident happened before 9pm last night and the alarm was raised. 

Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene where the victim was treated but he was later pronounced dead. 

His body remains there this morning as the Garda Technical Bureau is due to carry out an examination. 

The Irish Sun understands he was attacked and had suffered stab injuries. 

A senior investigating officer has been appointed as a probe gets underway. 

The arrested man can be questioned for 24 hours before he must be charged or released. 

A Garda spokesman said: “Gardai attached to the Sligo Leitrim Crime Functional Area have commenced an investigation into all of the circumstances surrounding the death of a man following an incident in County Leitrim on Thursday, 11th June 2026.

“Shortly after 9pm, Gardai responded to reports of an incident at a residential property in Arderry, where a man in his 40s was found unresponsive. He was treated at the scene by emergency services personnel but was pronounced deceased a short time later.

“A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene and is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda Station in County Leitrim.

“A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed and both the local Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified.

“The body of the deceased remains at the scene, which is preserved for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
