Brit actor Patrick Godfrey dead at 93 after beloved roles in Ever After: A Cinderella Story, Les Miserables & Doctor Who

BELOVED British actor Patrick Godfrey, known for his roles in Doctor Who and Ever After: A Cinderella Story, has died aged 93.

He passed away “peacefully at home surrounded by his family” on Thursday night.

His talent agency released a statement confirming the sad news, describing Godfrey as “an exceptionally talented actor”.

It said: “It is with great sadness that we can confirm Patrick Godfrey passed away last night.

“He died peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

“Paddy was an exceptionally talented actor and a remarkable individual, and we will miss him greatly.”

His cause of death was not announced.

Godfrey was best known for his role in Ever After: A Cinderella story, playing Italian inventor and artist Leonardo da Vinci.

The 1998 classic romance also starred Drew Barrymore and Anjelica Huston.

Across his decades-spanning career, Godfrey took on a massive number of roles including in Maurice (1987), Les Miserables (2012) and The Remains of the Day (1993).

In 1966, he appeared in six episodes of Patrick Troughton’s Doctor Who.

He even reappeared on the show as another character years later, cropping up as Major Cosworth in series eight in 1971.

The veteran actor also found frequent roles on stage, playing Mr Justice Wainwright in Witness For The Prosecution in 2017.

Godfrey also regularly trod the boards of the National Theatre, the Globe and the Royal Court.

London boy, Godfrey was born in Islington in February 1933.

He broke into acting in the mid-1950s through the BBC’s Radio Drama Company.

After radio and theatre, Godfrey’s first on-screen role came in 1972, with the Royal Shakespeare Company’s (RSC) televised production of Miss Julie.

He went on to star in more than 100 productions for film and television, turning in stellar performances across his career.

His last on screen role was in an episode of Casualty in 2021.

Godfrey is survived by his wife Amanda Walker, 90, and their two children.

Kate Godfrey, their daughter, followed her parents into the world of theatre and currently serves as head voice coach at the RSC.
